Javan Rhino Protection and Security
The Javan rhino is one of the rarest large mammals on Earth, with only 50 to 56 individuals surviving in a single population in Indonesia’s Ujung Kulon National Park. For decades, the park was celebrated as a safe haven, but a devastating crisis came to light when investigations revealed that sophisticated poaching syndicates had illegally killed up to one-third of the population between 2019 and 2023. In response to this urgent wake-up call, the International Rhino Foundation (IRF) and local partner ALeRT designed "Rhino Shield". By blending data analysis, field investigations and judicial training, Rhino Shield aims to stop threats proactively and secure a future for the world's last Javan rhinos. Contributions will directly fund critical intelligence gathering, field investigators and the secure operations capacity needed to close security gaps and proactively protect every remaining rhino.

Sumatran Rhino Sanctuary Security
With fewer than 50 individuals left in the wild, the Sumatran rhino faces an extreme risk of extinction. The Sumatran Rhino Sanctuary (SRS) is the absolute cornerstone of global survival efforts, housing ten reproductively viable rhinos and celebrating five historic calf births. To protect these irreplaceable animals, IRF has deployed a comprehensive security system that integrates a 24/7 central operations room with 32 real-time surveillance cameras scanning continuously for threats. While IRF has successfully secured the funding to recruit a dedicated rapid-response security team to act on these alerts, we now face the vital challenge of funding their ongoing operational running costs. Financial support will keep these specialized rangers active in the field - covering salaries, field logistics and vital communications equipment - ensuring this high-tech defense network maintains round-the-clock protection.
The mission of the IRKA is to promote professional expertise to develop and share the best practices for managed rhino care and contribute to conservation.
